Lab 20 Cryogenic Dewar Discharge Device Kit

The lab 20 cryogenic dewar discharge device has undergone an engineering change. In order to increase efficiency of the device we have an extended stopper available that will replace the existing ones. (P/N 13490811) An upgrade kit has been created for older discharge device. With the upgrade kit detailed installation instructions will be included. The old number 10667802 and the new discharge device is part number 13464867, has been made obsolete. A new part number was also created for the Lab 10 cryogenic dewar discharge device since the Lab 10 cryogenic dewar discharge device used the same rubber stopper. 13467208 is the new number; with a 2” neck opening this part number applies to Lab 10 cryogenic dewars. Currently an updated manual is in the works. 90 days is the warranty on all parts.

Cryogenic Freezer 3-way (Purge) Valve

A minor change has occurred with respect to the purge valve as reported in January 2007’s Tech Tips. The new valve has wire leads with a connector which plugs into the TEC3000 wire harness whereas the old valve connected to the controller via push-on wire leads. You may need to purchase a new spade connector, P/N 10554234 if the wire assembly is being replaced and not the valve. Part number 13284954 is the new valve. Under P/N 10712933 the old valve is still available for purchase.

Lab 10 & Lab 20 Cryogenic Dewar Discharge Devices

For Lab 20 cryogenic dewar discharge devices, there is a new part number for replacement rubber stoppers. A new bolt assembly and two rubber stoppers are included in the kit. 13490811 is the part number for the kit. As for the Lab 20 cryogenic dewar and Lab 10 cryogenic dewar, they will use the same two-piece stopper design from this point. Please order part numbers 4710067 and 13465974 for the two rubber stoppers and part number 9086779 for the bolt assembly when replacing the rubber stoppers and bolt on the Lab 10 cryogenic dewar discharge device. Please see below the updated Lab 10 and Lab 20 discharge device part numbers:

Temperature Sleeves

There has recently been some discussion on what units still have temperature sleeves built in. It is important to know the design goals of each series of cryogenic freezers before going into a discussion of which units do and do not have sleeves. MVE and stock series cryogenic freezers can be used for vapor storage but are designed for liquid nitrogen storage. Top box temperatures below -125°C cannot be expected even with the vapor sleeve installed. Increases liquid nitrogen usage notes that installation of a vapor sleeve. If your customer requires reliable temperatures in vapor below -120°C then MVE -150 (High Efficiency) and -190 (Vapor Storage) freezers are the one to be steered.

MVE stock series cryogenic freezers do not have any sleeves available for them and achieve vapor a vapor temperature of -120°C in their stock form such as the MVE 103, MVE 811, and MVE 1318. Both stock series MVE 1842P-150 and MVE 1877P-2T achieve -150°C in vapor phase. For any -150 (High Efficiency) or -190 (Vapor Storage) models Vapor sleeves are not available. 510, 616, 1223, 1426, 1839 are the following models have built-in temperature sleeves. For that particular freezer both the hanging temperature reduction sleeve and the appropriate vapor platform included in the vapor pack.

Design Changes to LAB 20

The inner neck diameter of the Lab 20 cryogenic dewars has changed from 2” to 2.18” effective immediately. Accessories such as the cork and cover, discharge device, and pouring spout will have an affect by this change. The overall height, overall diameter and NER are not affected as previously stated. When ordering accessories or spare parts for Lab 20 dewars please note that, it is imperative that you supply us with the serial number so that we can ensure you get the proper parts. New Cryogenic Freezer Lids

800 and 1500 series cryogenic freezers will begin shipping in May 2007 with composite Xenoy lids. When compared to the current painted aluminum lids, these cryogenic lids offer superior durability, because their color is molded in. In forthcoming Tech Tips, pictures of the new cryogenic lids will be available.

HE Cryogenic Freezer Questions & Answers

Q: A new 1520HE freezer with a TEC3000 controller is recently installed. To ensure that the battery backup is properly identified by the TEC3000 what steps do I have to take?

A: Plug and play is the option for battery backup. The presence of the BB is detected which should show “enabled” in the display. To enable or disable the BB you do not have to enter anything

Q: With 21CFR, Is the software for the ships logger compliant?

A: 21CFR section 11 is compliant for ship log.
